Houston Rockets – Los Angeles Lakers, game N6

After the one finalist in the Western Conference’s Final was decided last night, when Denver Nuggets beated Dallas Mavericks for their 4:1 win, tonight we may see who will be the second finalist and if we mention the current Houston’s situation this is very probable to happen.
Houston are entering into this match with very serious problems in their squad. After the injury of their backup center Dikembe Mutombo (which most likely will end his career), another misfortune overtook the Rockets, as their regular center and big star of the team, Yao Ming, received another injury which end the season for him. And after these two injuries, Chuck Hayes plays the role of a center, but if we look at his stats – 8 points and 13 rebounds totally for the 2 matches without Yao, we can’t say that he is something even acceptable in this role. Some statistics which Yao makes them for one half of one single game. In the first game when the Big-China Gun didn’t played his absence was not crucial for the team, which was mainly due to the very poor performance by the LA Lakers, and the Rockets managed to win the game 99:87, with even leading at the end of the 3rd quarter 83:54. But in the very next game we actually saw what is Houston without Yao and the Rockets were trashed by 40 points margin – 118:78. Without Yao it is very hard for the Rockets to defence Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum in the paint and it is necessary for Ron Artest to guard some of them which leads to very open spaces for Kobe Bryant and we all know what happens when Kobe has the freedom for doing what he can. But even if Artest is guarding tight Kobe in this game, Gasol and Bynum (and Odom) are not less threat for the Rockets.
Los Angeles have to finish the series in this game after they gave away 2 wins for Houston, one of them even in the Staples Center and the other is mentioned above which was very suprising. One more win for the Rockets will be too much for them and definitely Lakers will come out highly motivated to win this one and to not play 7th game which will extra-tire them right before the very hard games with Denver Nuggets in the West’s Final. I expect from them to take a serious lead before the half-time and after that to rest some important players and play with the bench players which we saw that can be competitive to the Rockets (24:24 in the last quarter in the previous game when the Lakers were with their reserve squad). Still more, the Lakers are 7-2 ATS in the last 9 games between the two teams and 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetins in Houston.
Pick: Los Angeles Lakers (-8.5) at the odds of 1.90 in bet365.

I just can’t believe how Lakers lost two games to Yao-less Rockets, and even with so big margins (12 and 15 points). Yeah, it is very possible that Lakers will trush the Rockets in the next game like they did it in the previous match in Staples Center but I can’t see how Lakers will beat Nuggets with their current performances.
