Champions League
08.04
It is the 5th year in a row since these two teams meet each other – 3 times in the semi-finals and 1 time in the group stage. And since now, Liverpool has been more successful in these clashes, as they eliminated Chelsea 2 times.Surely, both team know each other very well and they know the style of the opponent when it is about the Champions League. Still, Chelsea are trying to lift that cup up and Liverpool has been a major factor in this competition in the last years. The main difference now is that the blues have Hidding now and he is the fan`s hope.
The team news are good for both sides as Drogba will be ready to play and Chelsea will miss only Joe Cole. Mascherano is banned for the game and most probably he will be replaced by Lucas. Hyypia is also out due to injury.
Chelsea are experiencing some problems lately with their away games in the Champions League as they drew 5 and lost 1 in the last 6 games. On the other side, Liverpool is doing pretty good at Anfield lately with their most significant success beating Real Madrid with 4 – 0 last leg.
There is high probability that these game will be like the ones before – great battle in the midfield, cautious play, low scoring game. But the 2 main issues here are: first, Liverpool is in good form now and their morale is high after beating Man Utd (1-4) and Real (4-0). And they showed this year that they can play nice against strong opponents as they made good results against the Top 4 and did double against Man Utd. Second, Chelsea have Hidding who will try to tactically win here and this will be the only way to get something from the game.
Injured and suspended players
Liverpool – Hyypia, Mascherano
Chelsea – Joe Cole
Probable line-ups
Liverpool - Reina – Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio – Alonso, Lucas – Kuijt, Gerrard, Riera – Torres
Chelsea - Cech – A. Cole, Terry, Alex, Bosingwa – Mikel – Essien, Lampard, Ballack – Drogba, Anelka
The Pick
Tactically this will be a tense game, especially in the midfield. This time Hidding is leading the team but Liverpool are in great shape and this season they are effective against strong opponents. Normally, Liverpool are slight favorites here and I fancy the to win. Still you know that these games can be sometimes unpredictable, so the AH looks good here. And most probably, we will see the regular low scoring game here but the odds are low.
