After last night’s start of the Western Conference’s semifinals with the clash between Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks, tonight we will see the second semi where in Staples Center, the Lakers are hosting the Rockets with the only thought for one convincing win.
Los Angeles Lakers managed to finish off with the Jazz for only 5 games (beating them 4:1) and they had enough time for relax and preparation for this game, as their last match against the Jazz was on 27th of April. The star-player of the Lakers, Kobe Bryant, missed the Sunday’s practice of the team with a sore throat but I don’t think that this is something which could cause him to miss this game. LA already won all of the 4 games against the Rockets in the regular season, and they covered today’s spread in the two home games without any problems.
Houston Rockets had some very tough games against Portland (2 last-seconds home wins with 86:83 and 89:88) but due to their away win in the first game of the series they managed to break through Portland’s opposition and they assured themselves some more Playoff matches. The Rockets’ good result throughout the season are mainly because their very good defensive style of play but today they will face some very dangerous offensive team with the players like Bryant, Gasol, Odom etc. In all of the 4 games of the regular season, Ron Artest and Shane Battier played very tough defence on Kobe Bryant but he averaged 28.3 points on 53 percent shooting in these matches and tonight maybe it will be the same. In contrast to Bryant, Yao Ming averaged only 16 points in these 4 games, and it is clearly that Phil Jackson knows how to stop the Big-China gun.
I expect another good home game for the Lakers which will result in one convincing win and very good start of the Western semifinals.
