Hoffenheim – Bayer Leverkusen

The early Friday match of this round in the German Bundesliga promises to be very interesting, as the two teams are with one of the most dangerous attacks in Germany.

Hoffenheim are the team who scored the most goals among all of the teams – 45. This is due to the incredible form in which were Vedad Ibisevic before the winter break, who scored 18 goals in 17 matches and leads the Top-goalscorer rankings. Unfortunately, Ibisevic was heavy injured in one friendly game and will miss the rest of the season. As his replacement, Hoffenheim bought Boubacar Sanogo, who is far away than the abilities of Vedad Ibisevic, but managed to score a goal in his first game for Hoffenheim, and it seems that the team will play the same attacking style of play. But I think that there is a big possibility for them to go down the table, as I don’t think that their mentality will endure for the rest of the season, and the missing of Ibisevic will be felt. From the two played games after the break, Hoffenheim won against Energie 2:0 and drew versus Borusia Monchengladbach 1:1, and in my opinion it is time for one big result game, which I’m not sure that they will win.

Bayer Leverkusen didn’t start at the best possible way and they recorded one draw against Borusia Dortmund 1:1, after which they lost heavily to Stutgart 2:4 at their home ground “BayArena”, and undoubtedly they will be highly motivated tonight to record first win after the winter-break. Their topscorer Patrick Helmes is 2nd in the Topgoalscorer rankings with 13 goals in 19 matches, and with the injury of Ibisevic, he is one of the major candidates for this prize (together with Grafite from Wolfsburg). Leverkusen scored 39 goals in the German Bundesliga till now and they took 4th place in this ranking.

Today I expect one high-scoring game again, as earlier this season Leverkusen beated Hoffenheim 5:2, and in the other meeting between these two for the German Cup in 2003, Hoffenheim managed to win by 3:2. But with the missing of Ibisevic it will be very difficult for Hoffenheim to win this one and Leverkusen has the perfect chance to cause the first home loss of Hoffenheim.
