When you register in a bookie you can choose to use different types of odds. Here we are going to show you those types and how to convert them. Basically there are 3 different types of odds – AMERICAN ( 250, 100, – 250, mainly used in the USA), DECIMAL ( 3.5, 2, 1.40, the one we are most used to see) and FRACTIONAL (5/2, 1/1, 2/5, mainly used in the United Kingdom). In this article we will show you how to convert american and fractional to decimal.
Let`s take the following game – Hamburger – Werder.
The DECIMAL ODDS will be like this (for 1×2):
Hamburger – 2.40
Draw – 3.30
Werder – 2.87
The AMERICAN ODDS will be like this (for 1×2):
Hamburger – +140
Draw – +230
Werder – +188
The FRACTIONAL ODDS will be like this (for 1×2):
Hamburger – 7/5
Draw – 23/10
Werder – 15/8
CONVERTING THE POSITIVE AMERICAN ODDS INTO DECIMAL: 1 + (the odd/100)
example – home win
american – +140
decimal - 1 + 140/100 = 1 + 1.4 = 2.4
example – draw
american – +230
decimal – 1 + 230/100 = 1 + 2.3 = 3.3
CONVERTING THE NEGATIVE AMERICAN ODDS INTO DECIMAL(we don`t have such in the current game, so we will take -200 just for the purposes of the example): 1 – (100/the odd)
example
american – -200
decimal – 1 – 100/(-200) = 1 – (- 0.5 ) = 1.5
CONVERTING THE FRACTIONAL INTO DECIMAL ODDS: the odd + 1
example – home win
fractional – 7/5
decimal – 7/5 + 1 = 1.4 + 1 = 2.4
example – draw
fractional – 23/10
decimal - 23/10 + 1 = 2.3 + 1 = 3.3
